New Incoming Impact Player – 9. Charles Cole

My next incoming potential impact player is defensive tackle Charles Cole. He’s a JUCO transfer from Butler CC which is well known for its wealth of talent. And It’s no exception for Cole.

He’s a big guy at 6-3 280 lbs. The best part is he’s a solid 280 lbs and doesn’t look his weight. That means he’s not only strong but he’ll pull his weight around easier and deceive the guy he’s battling against.

His stats last year at Butler CC aren’t flashy, with 6 solo tackles, 13 assists and zero sacks. But he has the size and ability to be a handful on the defensive line and that is something the defensive coaches will definitely take advantage of.

And looking at his highlight video shows me he’s going to be great with stopping the run. He has a great nose for tracking down the runner and it appeared a lot of his tackles/assists were for losses. Also with Daniel Wise getting so much attention next year Cole could cause some matchup problems for opposing teams with his size and quickness.

Another thing to note is it appeared he was headed to Kansas State. Beaty and crew were able to flip him to come to the right Kansas school, the Jayhawks. That’s a big victory for the program whenever they can steal one away from Kansas State. Also, if Snyder was interested in Cole you know he has to be a stud.

This is overall a huge pickup for the KU defense especially since Dorance Armstrong entered the NFL draft this year and they lost Isi Holani, Jacky Dezir and DeeIsaac Davis to graduation. They needed more play makers and depth on the defensive line and I think they may have found a diamond in the rough in Charles Cole.

My fearless prediction…

With Charles’ size and experience as a JUCO transfer I think he has the potential to play some big minutes in 2018. It’ll be hard for him to start ahead of Daniel Wise and J.J. Holmes, but even if he doesn’t start he’ll get plenty of playing time. I look for him to be a big time run stopper for us and get 10 total tackles, with most of those being for losses. I also see him getting a sack or two with his quickness and the fact that Daniel Wise will be double teamed most of the year.
