New Incoming Impact Player – 4. Reuben Lewis

Number four on my list of new incoming impact players is Reuben Lewis, a junior OL JUCO product from Coffeyville CC.

It’s no secret Kansas has a glaring issue at the OL so they need as much help as they can get. Lewis is a guy that has experience in college playing at the JUCO level and can compete for a starting job right away. He’s also a big dude at 6’4 and 310 pounds.

It’s also to note that he had offers from East Carolina, New Mexico and West Virginia. I’m surprised he didn’t draw more interest because I think he could be a huge piece in Kansas getting their OL back on track.

As I watched his highlights I was even more convinced. He’s strong, has a high motor and doesn’t give up on the play. It’s also easy to notice him on the field as he’s a massive dude and in most cases bully’s the guy opposite of him. And I like that his foot work is quick for a big guy which I’m sure AJ Ricker is excited to work with.

Another thing I noticed from his highlights is he really drives into his guy and has great technique. Often times the guy he’s up against is driven into the ground or at least getting pushed backwards. Kansas needs this type of strong willed offensive lineman so it can set the standard for the other guys on the team.

I said this a lot last year and I’ll say it a lot again this year but as the OL goes so goes the offense.

My Fearless prediction…

I really think Reuben Lewis has a great chance to start at one of the tackle spots. He already has two years of college experience under his belt and he comes in with great size and an incredible amount of strength. Lewis could very well be the big missing piece in an OL that has really struggled for the last three years under Beaty. If he can in fact impress the coaches and land a starting spot look for him to be a big time contributor on the Kansas offense this year and next.
